Heat, humidity, and unrelenting sunshine can really do a number on your hair. So try a few of these citrusy solutions (and see our Fresh-Faced Beauty for Life Special Report for more juicy beauty tips), then get ready for a cornucopia of compliments.
Lemony fresh. Tame wild tresses and control frizz with this super-simple citrus hair gel. Warm 1 cup of water with 1 packet of Knox® unflavored gelatin over low heat in a saucepan until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Let the mixture cool until set, then spoon it into a jar with a tight-fitting lid and store it in the fridge for two weeks. Use it as you would any commercial hair gel.
Restore the radiance. Bring back the brilliance to dull, drab hair with this orange conditioner. Extract the juice from one orange and mix it in a shatterproof bowl with ½ cup of water and 1 teaspoon of honey. Step into the shower and shampoo your hair. Pour the orange water over your head and massage it into your hair from roots to tips. Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing it out with warm water. Dry and style your hair as usual, and admire your soft, shiny tresses.
Detox your locks. The gunky buildup of hair products can leave your tresses in distress. Clear it all out and get your hair back to good health with this potent orange and lemon aid: Extract the juice from one orange and one lemon, putting it through a sieve to catch the pulp. Pour the juices into a small bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and 1 tablespoon of honey and mix well. Wrap a towel around your shoulders to catch any drips, and massage the mixture into your dry hair from roots to tips. Leave it on your hair for one hour, then shampoo and condition as usual. Use this surge-of-citrus cleansing treatment once a month to keep your mane looking its best.
