Sure, you can buy lots of fancy lotions and potions that promise to make your skin youthful and glowing. But why spend big bucks when Mother Nature does the same job, at a fraction of the cost? Here's just a taste of what fabulous fruit can do for your face (see our Special Report Sweet Dreams, Beautiful! for 10 more pretty foods):
- Refresh your face with this lightly fragrant scrub that tones and brightens skin. Just grind several dried apricot pits in a food processor or coffee grinder until you have a coarse powder. Stir in enough rose water (available in health-food stores and online) to make a thick paste, and using your fingertips, apply it to your face, avoiding the eye area. Gently massage the scrub in circles to remove dull, dead skin and get your glow back. Then rinse it off with warm water, and gently pat your skin dry.
- Soothe and freshen with an avocado facial cleanser. In a small bowl, combine one beaten egg yolk, ½ cup of whole milk, and half of a peeled avocado. Beat the mixture with a fork until it's thin and creamy. Use cotton balls to apply it to your face, using gentle circular motions. Rinse it off with warm water, and gently pat your skin dry.
- Whip up a triple-treat face cream that will remove makeup and clean and soften your skin. In a small bowl, mix the juice of one lime with ½ cup of mayonnaise (the real kind, make with eggs and oil, not the lower-fat version) and 1 tablespoon of melted butter (not margarine). Spoon the cream into a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid, and store it in the refrigerator. Use your fingertips to scoop out the cleanser and massage it into your face in small circles. Rinse well with lukewarm water, and gently pat your skin dry. (See our Special Report Fresh-Faced Beauty for Life! for 23 more ways citrus can juice up your beauty routine.)
